Main Question: Did the Civil War solve the problems that caused it?

More INTU's:

- Why did some soldiers decide to fight?
- What did the soldiers/armies lose by fighting?
- Is there a way that the Civil War could've been prevented?

On July 8th, 1863, Elisha Hunt Rhodes of the 2nd Rhode Island Volunteers created a diary entry about witnessing the battle of Gettysburg between the Confederates and the Union. Giving a detailed account of the days when the battle began to when it ended, Rhodes created a valuable primary source of information that brings lots of questions to mind; what were the duties of a soldier? What were the living conditions? What was the price of being a soldier?

With these questions, I hope to be able to understand the battle at Gettysburg better, and as a whole understand the Civil War better.

INTU's:
- What were the causes of the Civil War?
- What would have been gained for either side?
- What was the price of being a soldier? Was it worth it?
